The premedical chapter of the American Medical Student Association at the University of California, Merced was founded with intentions very similar to the university itself — to fill a void. This void is a phenomenon known as brain drain. That is, many students leave the San Joaquin Valley in pursuit of higher education, though these students often do not bring this newfound knowledge back to the valley. Consequently, there is a great need for professionals throughout the region. AMSA at UC Merced hopes to change that. We plan to contribute to the growth and development of Central California.
When you join UC Merced AMSA, you become more than just a part of a pre-medical organization on campus that emphasizes leadership and professionalism. You become part of a vital, national force of future physicians who believe that patients and health professionals are partners in the management of health care, and that access to high-quality healthcare is a right and not a privilege. At AMSA, activism is a way of life. It is where student idealism is transformed into meaningful public service, innovation and institutional change.
